The Schibel Method

David M Schibel
I have been shooting professionally for over 20 years.  This time spent behind the lens, I have found a passion in my career for Live Music, Portrait and Sports Photography. Since boyhood, I have had a fascination for music, people and bizarre things people do in this world. Being able to capture these moments has not only been an amazing adventure, it has been an incredible career.

I have worked as the staff photographer and been featured in Arizona Golf Central Magazine; My work has appeared on the cover, centerfold and in featured articles in Pain Magazine, and many other periodicals. My work has been used for album covers, show posters, advertising, websites and on tee-shirts. My photographs have been displayed in art galleries, art shows and won numerous awards including ‘Best of Show’ in many judged events. Clients and people I have had the great pleasure to photograph and work with, include; Alice Cooper, Wayne Newton, Pete Cummings, Steve Haworth, Roger Mayweather, Jeff Ritter, Mark McMillan, KTAR radio, Iron Boy Boxing, PGA, LPGA, S.A.R.R.C., and many many more.

I realized many years ago that I enjoyed sharing my knowledge with photographers, both new and experienced. After many conversations, and time spent with numerous photographers, I found a passion for teaching.

I enjoy working with my students, help them develop their skills in photography so that they can capture the photographs they envision.  I use my own method of teaching so my students are able to learn, practice, and understand the many aspects of photography.

The Schibel Method

I my time as a photographer I have developed a proven method of teaching the art of photography.  I use multiple methods of exchanging information between instructor and student.

Class consists of lecture, printed lesson handouts, in class guided hands-on experience with the techniques and skills from the lesson of the day In each class I hand out a handy laminated card with all the major lesson points for the subject being taught that day.  These reference cards make a great addition to your gear bag and give you convenient place to go to refresh your knowledge. Classes are usually between 2 and 3 hours long, depending on the class.  During class I will conduct a lecture, that you can follow along with a printed handout. My lecture will be broken up in segments, with time in between with guided hands-on real time experience to try out the new skills you've learned and to ask questions you may have.

Meet-ups are a less formal class.  We will meet on location of a favorite spot of mine for whatever the lesson of the meet-up consists of.  We will meet up, go over a few points, I'll hand out a meet-up information card just like my class cards, and we will commence shooting.  I will be available in the group for questions, guidance.  Often I will bring specialized gear for the subject so that you may have the opportunity to try something out to see if it needs to be in your gear bag.

;Zoom classes are conducted online. Zoom is available through numerous devices, but a PC or Mac is recommended.  Zoom classes are generally photo editing classes.  I teach the the numerous areas and methods of using photoshop, Adobe Camera RAW, and Lightroom.  In my Zoom classes I share my screen with you to make following along even easier. My Zoom classes also follow the same format as my classes; Lecture, hands on guided experience, and question and answers.

I also offer a critique class.  While this may seem intimidating, critique is a major part of improving your photography.  After you've been through a few classes and have put your newly learned skills to work, critique class gives me the opportunity to see how you've understood and been able to apply the lessons.  Critique is a great method for you to find out if you have a firm grasp on what you've learned and gives you the opportunity to ask questions you may not have thought of in other classes.  I will point out your strong points and where you absolutely nailed it, and I will make suggestions in areas to help you perfect your techniques.  Critique classes are offered both in a group setting, private and semi private sessions.

Portraits

Learn to Take Better Portraits

Portraits are a big part of many people’s photography work. Whether it is photographs of family, friends, maybe even professional head shots, improving your portraits starts with understanding the functions of your camera.  Understanding the relationship between aperture, shutter speed and ISO; Understanding how changes in one affects the others, and how each change affects the composition of your photograph.

A proven and effective method of teaching photography

the Schibel method

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old
