Classes
This is a great introductory photography class for those fairly new to photography, as well as those who’ve been shooting a while, but want to get off the automatic modes. This is also a great refresher class if you haven’t picked up a camera in a while and want a few reminders of how it all works.
This course focuses on the basic aspects of photography composition that will take your pictures to the next level.
At the most basic level, photography captures still images of the world around us. Yet many of the best photographs are not static: instead, they use motion techniques to communicate a sense of speed, activity, and the passage of time.
Having troubles with getting the correct exposure? Curious what the histogram is and how to read it? In this meetup I will discuss how your camera's light meter works, how metering affects your meter, as well as what your histogram is and how to read and understand the information it is giving you.
The word photography is derived from the greek – photos, means light and graphos, means writing, delineation or painting. In other words, photography means “painting with light.” The best way to improve your photography is to understand how natural light works.
In the group setting of friendly fellow photographers we can learn from each others triumphs and mistakes. I will offer my insight to your composition, make suggestions, and discuss techniques to help.
Landscape photography is great way to share your travels as well as a beautiful way to capture those amazing days when the light is just right. In this class I discuss the how light directly influences landscape photography. I explain how to use compositional rules with the terrain, and other ways to improve your landscape photography.
Light painting and Long Exposure Night photography can bring new life and inspiration to your skill set and portfolio. If you know your camera and understand how the sensor interacts with light, with practice, capturing mesmerizing shots becomes a less daunting. Let a new muse bring new light into your creative photography! At this meet-up Dave will discuss different techniques and ideas on how to paint with light and how to use your shutter speeds to create amazing photographs.
There are thousands upon thousands of types of camera gear. Camera Bodies, lenses, bags, tripods, monopods, filters, memory cards, and the list goes on and on. By the end of this meetup, you should have a good idea what gear is and what gear may not be worth your hard earned money. .
Photographing the night sky can be incredibly the challenging, even for a seasoned photographer. If you know your camera, lenses and understand the basics of long exposure, with practice, capturing those starry night sky shots becomes a lot less frustrating. At this meet-up I will discuss different techniques and ideas on how to photograph the night sky, plus a few hint for your post processing to really help those stars shine.
This class we delve into primary colors in a different way than you probably learned them. I discuss color harmony, how color defines your composition, how to make the dynamic range of colors in your frame work for you.
You have heard about high dynamic range or HDR photography, but are not quite sure what it is. We will discuss how to shoot high dynamic range photographs, settings, techniques, software and the computer processing of the HDR photographs. In person learning will be the in camera process and learning challenges. I will go over the software process, but the software process will be at home challenges.
Macro photography is a fascinating look into a mostly unnoticed world all around us. In this class I introduce this fun and amazing genre of photography. I explain the basic concepts, specialized gear, the common challenges and techniques to over come them.
This class goes more in depth with macro photography. I discuss techniques for successful macro using the many different lenses and macro magnification methods. Students will have the opportunity to use light modifiers as well as other types of macro gear.
The rule of thirds is the bedrock of composition. This class goes over the theory behind the rule and how it relates to our way of seeing. This lesson expands on the concept by introducing different techniques for using and effectively breaking the rule of thirds.
Have a firm grasp on the basics of composition? Do you want to better understand how and what our brains find compositionally pleasing? At this meetup I will discuss more advanced compositional rules, why these rules work, plus how and when to break these rules.

Extreme macro brings many challenges, depth of field and light being the biggest challenges a macro photographer will battle. In this class I will discuss different advanced techniques to overcome both of these difficulties. In this class students will have the opportunity to use an automatic macro rail and other specialized gear. From focus stacking to light diffusion, this class will help you sharpen your macro photographs.
Meet-ups
Landscape photography is not as simple as it appears. In this meet-up I will be focusing on light, pointing out composition, and other ways to improve your landscape photography. This meet-up will alternate between different favorite locations.
Bird Photography is a fun and interesting genre of photography. At this meet-up I will discuss different aspects of bird photography. focusing techniques, lens and camera settings, as well as the benefits of proper gear. This meet-up will alternate between different locations.
Night street photography can be quite the challenge. If you know your camera and understand the basics of light, with practice, capturing fantastic night street shots becomes a lot less frustrating. At this meet-up Dave will discuss different techniques and ideas on how to photograph the streets at night.
Zoom Classes
This class in an introduction to editing photography with Photoshop. In this Zoom meet-up photographer David Schibel will help you get started with your journey into the powerful world of Photoshop. David will start with the basics, explaining the workspace, tools, and how to prepare your workspace specifically for photography. He will also discuss color spaces, image size and quality, working with layers, importing digital photographs using Adobe Camera Raw, and much more.

David will start with the basics. He will also discuss opacity and fill, masking, as well as many hints and suggestions for good editing habits. Working with layers and masking are both very important tools in editing your photographs.
Have you ever opened a photo in Photoshop and found that the colors were dramatically different? This problem has to do with color spaces, a topic that every photographer needs to understand.
This class in an introduction to working with Adobe Camera Raw (ACR). In this Zoom meet-up photographer David Schibel will help you understand the concepts and practice of using ACR. David will start with the basics of color correction, explore the use of whites, blacks and the histogram. David will discuss exposure correction, contrast and clarity, as well as raw sharpening and raw noise reduction.
